Norwegian Callsign Update

Postby Wygene Chong » Sun May 31, 2015 12:53 pm

Hi Michal,

I have been asked by my Norwegian counterpart at VATSIM Scandinavia to post changes to Norwegian callsigns for vRoute. As I understand it, the callsigns are now:

NOR_CTR (old ENOR_CTR)

NOR_4_CTR (old ENOS_4 (primary)
NOR_6_CTR (old ENOS_1 (secondary)

NOR_9_CTR (old ENSV_S (primary)
NOR_16_CTR (old ENSV_N (secondary)

NOR_N_CTR (old ENBD_N (primary)
NOR_18_CTR (old ENBD-S (covers _19 as well)
NOR_C_CTR (old ENBD_C)
NOR_E_CTR (old ENBD_E)

ENOB_CTR remains the same

If that is too complicated - now I know how hard it can be to edit the backend! - we're happy to have the simplified version as follows:

NOR_CTR (old ENOR_CTR)
NOR_4_CTR (old ENOS_4)
NOR_9_CTR (old ENSV_S)
NOR_18_CTR (old ENBD-S)
NOR_N_CTR (old ENBD_N)
ENOB_CTR remains the same

A colourful map with all sectors is available here.

In addition, how would we go about updating the list of positions on the bookings page? I believe we can do that ourselves, but just checking in case it causes a massive error when we use NOR_xxx instead of ENxxx

Wygene,

Indeed we had this conversation with Norwegian colleagues but we had different ideas of whats "simple".

Can you match your list to my actual sectors? Here's what I have:

OSLO ACC EAST SCTR ENOS
OSLO ACC SOUTH SCTR ENOS
BODO ACC HELGELAND SCTR ENBD
OSLO ACC SKAGERAK SCTR ENOS
STAVANGER ACC NORTH SCTR ENSV
STAVANGER ACC WEST SCTR ENSV
OSLO ACC WEST SCTR ENOS
OSLO ACC NORTH SCTR ENOS
STAVANGER ACC SOUTH SCTR ENSV
STAVANGER ACC OFFSHORE SCTR ENSV
BODO ACC SOUTH SCTR ENBD
BODO ACC NORTH SCTR ENBD
BODO ACC EAST SCTR ENBD
BODO ACC CENTRAL SCTR ENBD
NORWAY FIR ENOR
BODO OCEANIC FIR ENOB

Happy to supply coordinates should you need them.

Ah I see. Well, I believe everyone would be happy just to see Norway light up properly when ATC logs on, so I will negotiate this on their behalf :)

All new callsigns are named "Norway Control" except ENOB which is still "Bodo Oceanic Control". For some I have entered a backslash with an alternative callsign, so if that alternative logs on then they cover that particular area. For example, the whole of Oslo ACC is generally NOR_4_CTR, but if NOR_6_CTR is online, they take only Oslo South/Skagerak.

OSLO ACC EAST SCTR ENOS >> NOR_4_CTR
OSLO ACC SOUTH SCTR ENOS >> NOR_4_CTR / NOR_6_CTR
BODO ACC HELGELAND SCTR ENBD >> NOR_N_CTR
OSLO ACC SKAGERAK SCTR ENOS >> NOR_4_CTR / NOR_6_CTR
STAVANGER ACC NORTH SCTR ENSV >> NOR_9_CTR / NOR_16_CTR
STAVANGER ACC WEST SCTR ENSV >> NOR_9_CTR
OSLO ACC WEST SCTR ENOS >> NOR_4_CTR
OSLO ACC NORTH SCTR ENOS >> NOR_4_CTR
STAVANGER ACC SOUTH SCTR ENSV >> NOR_9_CTR
STAVANGER ACC OFFSHORE SCTR ENSV >> NOR_9_CTR
BODO ACC SOUTH SCTR ENBD >> NOR_18_CTR / NOR_N_CTR
BODO ACC NORTH SCTR ENBD >> NOR_N_CTR
BODO ACC EAST SCTR ENBD >> NOR_N_CTR / NOR_E_CTR
BODO ACC CENTRAL SCTR ENBD >> NOR_N_CTR / NOR_C_CTR
NORWAY FIR ENOR >> NOR_CTR
BODO OCEANIC FIR ENOB >> ENOB_CTR

So far I matched your list of callsigns and my list of sectors. Found out there's many more sectors in your recent post than in the original short version. To investigate further, I checked VATSIM stats and discovered that callsigns with 16_CTR, C_CTR and E_CTR were _never_ used. I don't want to implement stuff just for the sake of implementation, so I skipped them.

Could you double check the data in attached file?

Thanks Michal, I've gone through the file and it is correct as far as I can see. Obviously ENOB has no change.

Hi Michal,

Sorry to bother you again  How's this going?

On a related issue, I've noticed that Jan Mayensfield (ENJA) is not included in vRoute. It is a Norwegian military/scientific airport that falls under Icelandic airspace.

Wikipedia info (with coordinates/runway): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Mayensfield
Orbx scenery (scroll down to EU): https://www.fullterrain.com/freeware

Thanks!

Hi Michal,

As this has taken such a long time, there has been a substantial decrease in the amount of traffic in Norway due to lack of visibility. Therefore, the Norwegian staff team have decided to revert to the old callsigns for day-to-day operations, using the NOR_xx_CTR callsigns only in high traffic situations (and when ENOS/ENSV/ENBD are already online).

Thus there is no need to change anything in vRoute.

Thanks,

Dear Wygene,

I had this in my backlog of tasks and I sat down today to finally solve it - without checking the forums first. I'm sorry to hear that my lack of solution affected your traffic in such a way. I realize I'm bringing you the starters long after you left the restaurant, and I'm really sorry for that.

Meanwhile, I paved the road to solve requests like this (meaning, i finally have a step-by-step instruction for myself and don't need to backtrack through the code each time it's needed). Today, I fixed a long outstanding bug with BIRD sectors not lighting up, and I tested the procedure using NOR_4_CTR, which is implemented too.

If you have a moment, it would be great if you could try out if NOR_4_CTR is showing up correctly.

Hi Michal,

Thank you so much for the reply! Apology accepted... I know life can be busy at times :D

I've tested NOR_4_CTR myself and it shows up as "Norway Radar (4)" in the list of ATC, but it does not light up the old ENOS_CTR on the map at all. ENOS/ENSV/ENBD/ENOR still work fine which is good to see and they will be the primary sectors from now on, with NOR_xx_CTR reserved for high traffic event splits.

I've also tested BIRD_E_CTR (Reykjavik Control East) yesterday and it did not light up the individual sector; instead it was the whole BIRD_CTR sector. Of course, I'm not really complaining about that, it's nice for traffic :P

It would be wonderful to see ENJA (Jan Mayen) added to the list of vRoute airports as above:

Have a good one!
